Your Ozempic pill questions, answered

Aug 17, 2026 · Short · Semaglutide

The Ozempic pill is here—but how does oral Ozempic actually work, and how is it different from the Ozempic injection?

In this video, I answer some of the biggest questions patients have about the new Ozempic tablet (oral semaglutide) from a pharmacist's perspective.

We'll cover questions such as:

  • What is the Ozempic pill?
  • How is the Ozempic tablet different from Ozempic injections?
  • Is oral Ozempic still semaglutide?
  • How do you take the Ozempic pill?
  • Can you take it with food?
  • How much water should you take it with?
  • How is the dose increased?
  • What side effects should you know about?
  • How is Ozempic tablet different from Rybelsus?
  • What should patients understand before switching formulations?

One of the most important things to understand is that oral Ozempic has specific administration requirements. It is taken once daily on an empty stomach in the morning with a small amount of water, followed by a waiting period before eating, drinking, or taking other oral medications.

Ozempic tablets and Rybelsus both contain semaglutide, but they are not interchangeable on a milligram-for-milligram basis.

If you're taking Ozempic, considering oral semaglutide, or simply trying to understand the rapidly changing world of GLP-1 medications, this video will help explain the practical differences.
